Weise Retro Review - The best of retro motorcycle jackets
With most retro motorcycle jackets you have to compromise on safety to get the style you want. Jackets are often found with little or no protection other than the leather itself. Weise have solved this problem with the jacket they funnily enough call, the Retro.
Looking at this motorcycle jacket you can instantly see no expense has been spared in any area. Leather, zips and armour are all to a high standard you wouldn't normally find from a jacket of this style.

So lets start with the jackets skin. The Retro is made from robust grade A Brazilian leather - as with most of the clothing from Weise - giving a great level of confidence that if you ever have an unplanned excursion you have a highly abrasion resistant material between you and the road.
Zips are made by none other than YKK that you would normally find in some of the top of the range sports leathers, not retro motorcycle jackets. The difference being they have been made from traditional brass to give that added classic feel.
The Retro jacket has a lightweight satin lining giving great comfort levels and minimum chafing. Other nice features are the 360 degree zip that runs around the waist inside the jacket - to allow it to be attached to trousers of a similar style - and as with most jackets nowadays popper adjusters are fitted on the side of the jacket if extra snuggness is needed.
Then we come the Retro's best feature, it's armour. All CE approved and manufactured by Knox the armour is in no way any sort of cheap imitation just so Weise can say the jacket has some sort of protection. Armour can be found in the shoulders, elbows as well as the back which is rare for sports leathers in this price range, let alone retro motorcycle jackets. The armour in the back is positioned over the nape to protect the most important part of the spine, the cervical.

What I love most about the armour though is it's sheer invisibility. Looking at the jacket you wouldn't know there was high quality armour lurking beneath. So you get the best of both world, the protection from the armour without and big lumps sticking out and spoiling the lines of the jacket.
Looking at the current range of retro motorcycle jackets it's hard to find those that can match the Weise Retro for style, protection and price. If you're after a great looking, practical, classically styled jacket at a great price, I think you've found it.
