Shoei's new X-Spirit II is the most aerodynamic lid on the market

X-Spirit II

Shoei’s latest racing helmet comes in the form of the X-Spirit II, and Shoei claim that it is the most aerodynamic helmet on the market.

On Shoei’s of old, the exit vent for the cooling system was incorporated into the spoiler at the back of the helmet; these two features are now separate. This in turn reduces turbulence at the back of the helmet and also allows more air to be sucked through allowing better cooling.

A lot of wind tunnel work was undertaken in the research stages of this helmet, and because of it the new X-Spirit II has been designed to be longer at the back than it is at the front, in the same fashion as you would see a cycling helmet. The idea behind the design is to cut down instability when tucked in behind the screen and when turning your head to the side.

It is clear that Shoei were aiming this lid at the track day market with the features the X-Spirit II comes with. Most notably would be its lightweight shell. Next would be the material that they have used for the lining which has been designed to wick sweat away from your forehead, while the vents blast cool air across your face. Lastly and most importantly, there is an emergency cheek pan removal system that allows a trained professional to removal the helmet a lot easier in the event of an accident.

Another nifty feature of this helmet is the cut outs inside the helmet just above the ears; this allows glasses or sun glasses to be worn in comfort.

The X-Spirit II is now on sale at SportsBikeShop and other licensed retailers
