Classic Biker Jackets – Our Pick of the Best

One of the biggest aspects about getting the classic motorcycle rider look just right is not only the bike itself, but the clothing you wear that really set off the image and put you in the right place. Quite a few years ago classic biker jackets were never made to be bespoke motorcycle jackets, they were merely off the shelf leather jackets and as such didn’t carry any of the necessary protection to help keep the rider safe. However, today’s current crop of classic biker jackets contain armour and reinforcement in all the right places to give you the protection you need. We’ve picked our personal favourites from the latest batch of jackets to give you a head start.
HELD 5721 Rocco
First up is the HELD 5721 Rocco and I’ll think you’ll agree with me straight away when I say this jacket is fantastic looking, but saying that I’m biased towards anything that has a café racer look about it.
In terms of features, the Rocco has fully CE approved armour in the shoulders and elbows and it also has a pocket on the inside at the back of the jacket to slot in a back protector, which I am highly in favour of. The leather itself has been given a distressed (worn) look which I really think is in keeping with classic biker jackets.
What I like most about the Rocco though is the fact it could easily be worn off the bike just as easily as on and you wouldn’t look out of place.

CAFE RACER Tribute Combi
Here’s another of the Café Racer motorcycle jackets. They’ve gone for the more traditional style plain black leather with the small collar. The cut and shape of the jacket is very much like the café racer jackets of old and that’s clear to see. Even given all the classic styling of this jacket there are still some new age features in there, like tiny reflective strips, adjustable frontal air vent system, and double layer hide on shoulders and elbows.
Unfortunately there is no armour supplied with the jacket, but there is pre cut pouches that have been prepared for Supershield amour, which can be bought separately. This lack of armour is reflected in the price and even after buying the armour, it still works out cheaper than other classic biker jackets.

HIGHWAY 1 Classic
Lastly we have the HIGHWAY 1 Classic, which is more of a halfway house that would look good upon any classic steed. This jacket is made from 1.2mm cowhide and features a quilted polyester inner lining for great comfort. Once again this jacket does not come with any armour as standard, but the jacket has been prepared for Supershield armour in the elbows, shoulders and back.
What I like about this jacket is that it is a bit of an all rounder. Some jackets are designed for a certain style bike, but the HIGHWAY 1 Classic could easily be worn with an array of different old time motorcycles.

There are a whole host of classic biker jackets out there, but the three above all have a great balance of price, protection, and that all important style. They should definitely be on your short list when on the search for you next retro motorcycle jacket.
